Ladakh to Get Meteorological Centre
Leh/ Dec. 29/ News Desk/ Ladakh, “the crown of India” is unique in terms of weather, climate, culture, topography with hot sunny days and cold chilly nights, extreme temperature ranging from -40 deg. Cls (in Drass in Jan.) to +37deg. Cls in Leh (in July-Aug). In addition, the scanty average precipitation of 10CM (in LEH) annually makes the region a distinct Cold Desert. It has also got a very fragile environment which is susceptible to various kinds of vagaries of weather especially due to climate change triggered by global warming.
To avert losses due to natural calamities, the Government of India has decided to establish a “Meteorological Centre” at Leh district of Ladakh to serve the people and the administration of Ladakh.
At 3500m, this Centre will be the Highest “Meteorological Centre” in India. The centre will provide all kinds of weather and climate related information on real-time basis.
